Structure  of urological training

Urology curriculum: 6 years = two years of general and four years of special urological training; after 6 years: FEBU Examinations, FEBU Diploma (10.06.2010.)

The urology curriculum takes 6 years, which consists of two years of general and four years of special urological training. Residents have to fulfill a 4 year long course to attend the exit examination too. This course is called Preparing and Extension Course for Specialization (“Szakvizsga Felkészít? és Továbbképz? Program – SzFTP”). Every second month a 3 days long theoretical and practical education is organized by one of the 4 medical universities. The FEBU Written and Oral Examinations are the official parts of the exit examinations in Hungary. The Hungarian urologists having passed the Hungarian and FEBU Examinations are granted the FEBU Diploma and may use the title Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU).

Career prospects

What one can do (work) in the country as a board certified urologist:

After specialization urologists can work on one of the departments of medical universities, county or city hospitals, or can join to a separate outpatient department/clinic. There are only a few private hospitals in Hungary and usually there are no vacancies. If somebody needs further specialization than andrology, oncology, surgery, gynecology and other fields of medicine are available.
